Qualified Minnesota Mediator

If you are an attorney seeking an ADR neutral in a family law matter, it is essential that you choose a straightforward, qualified neutral professional with experience when referring your clients.

For more than 40 years, I have been representing individuals in divorce and family law cases. In 1996, I started to shift my practice toward family law neutral work, and now I am doing it full time. In this time, I have handled more than 1,000 cases in the divorce process as a qualified mediator.

I am Mike Black, and I am active and recognized throughout Minnesota for my experience and straightforward approach to family law and mediation. I am a member of the following organizations:

  • Alternative Dispute Resolution Ethics Board
  • Conflict Resolution Minnesota/Association for Conflict Resolution
  • Court of Appeals, family law mediation panel

I am a qualified neutral under Rule 114.

I am also a CLE speaker, and I have been selected for inclusion in the list of Minnesota Super Lawyers in family law and mediation from 2006 through the present. I also have been AV Preeminent peer review-rated* through Martindale-Hubbell, its highest rating. I was also selected by my peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America from 2012 to the present in family law mediation. In 2014 I was named Lawyer of the Year for Minnesota in family law mediation by The Best Lawyers in America.

My ADR cases come to me at a variety of stages of litigation. As an attorney, you understand that your clients are unique and have specific needs and desires. By choosing mediation as a way to resolve a family law issue, your clients are taking control of their situation, saving money and working faster than they could in the courtroom. By taking an efficient, thorough, results-based approach to mediation, I am able to help my clients achieve the best outcome possible.

Judges are constrained by time and the law in how they resolve the issues within a divorce. In mediation, these limitations are lessened and your ability to be creative increases. As a performance-driven mediator, I am focused on obtaining results that are amicable and tailored specifically to the needs of each party.
